52 Weeks of Trails - Week 36- Lang Creek Trail
In case you missed it, we've introduced our challenge to you for 2014-- 52 Weeks of Trails. Each week we'll blog about a trail (hike, bike, snowshoe, and paddle!) and we hope you enjoy and share your experience with us on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest and/or Instagram using #52weeksoftrails. Happy Trails!
Hike to Lang Creek-- Length & Difficulty:
3 km | Relaxing 1 hour hike | Easy/Moderate
Yet another fantastic trail on the Duck Lake Trail network (remember Week #17 Blackwater Creek??). This is a gorgeous trail full of moss covered trees, plants and interesting fungi. Amble along this easy trail as you soak in the peace and quiet accompanied by the sounds of the creek. Halfway through the hike you will arrive at a nice picnic area with a gorgeous view of the creek and a small waterfall.
If you are eager to get closer to the water, spare yourself struggling and nearly falling down the hill in this area, stranding yourself on a rock in the middle of the raging river. Instead be patient enough to continue along the trail for another minute until you see a path on the left that will take you right down to the water. There is another picnic area here with a spectacular view of a larger waterfall and two swimming holes. If you go in the falls you may be lucky enough to catch the salmon traveling through this location. You may want to bring a swimsuit and towel for the water; it is going to be hard to resist taking a dip. Also, pack a lunch because you are going to want to utilize the picnic spots and have an excuse to stay longer!
