At Outdoor Explore, our goal is to provide you with the Sunshine Coast canoe adventure of a lifetime. We specialize in multi-day, private wilderness experiences aimed at escaping the crowds and unplugging from daily life.

Our tours can be customized, meaning you can choose the number of days, difficulty, group size, goals and objectives. We have a number of pre-designed canoe adventures to choose from, or get in touch and let us plan your perfect trip!

The Outdoor Explore HQ is located in North Vancouver. We can provide transport from Vancouver to the Sunshine Coast and back, to make your visit to the West Coast less stressful. Alternatively, we can meet you on the Sunshine Coast and head out from there.

Our guided multi-day canoe tours range from a 2 day, 1 night intro to canoeing in Sechelt Inlet, to a 6 day wilderness expedition on the Powell Forest Canoe Route.

We cater to all abilities. Our canoe guides are trained canoeing instructors and are able to teach you the different paddle strokes, as well as a wide range of other skills required when canoe tripping.

Your safety is our highest priority. We always keep our plans flexible to allow for unforeseen changes. We use the best equipment, both while paddling and at camp. Our guides are skilled canoeists, excellent educators and certified in wilderness first aid. Rest assured, you are in good hands.

If Canoeing isn’t your thing, check out our Sea to Sky treks, backpacking and climbing courses, or maybe even an expedition to the Himalayas!

Trips run from mid-May to mid-October.

“While on holiday in Vancouver my husband and I went on the 5 day Powell Forest canoe trip with Outdoor Explore. We had little experience with Canadian canoes and it took us a little while to get the hang of things but once we were going it was wonderful paddling across the lakes and the scenery was fantastic. The trip was very well organised, all the equipment and food was arranged for us. The portaging was the hardest part of the trip as the boats were heavy and some of the bags were heavy too but thankfully the longest one was only 2.8 km so not too far and we managed between the group to carry everything. Each night we stopped at a camp site on the lake which were all equipped with flattened areas for the tents, composting toilets and some had fire drums. Fortunately there wasn’t a fire ban so we could have a fire each night. You really felt you were out in the wilderness when all the food was in a bear-proof barrel tided to a tree at night, all other smelly items had to be put up a tree or up a bear hang. We even had to dig a hole to spit our toothpaste in so that the smell didn’t attract bears to the area. It was all very exciting for people who come from the UK where we don’t have any bears. We had a thoroughly enjoyable time and would do the trip again”

“This was an unforgettable experience which I would highly recommend to anyone wanting to escape for a few days without Wi-Fi and, getting back to basics and enjoying nature! Our guide provided delicious food our meals, had great camping equipment, and took great care of us – thank you!”

We spent two weeks with Outdoor Explore, this is our review of the Powell Forest Canoe Circuit.

We had never canoed before and I would recommend this circuit for beginners. It is enough of a challenge that you feel a sense of accomplishment at the end of the circuit but still achievable for the novice. All of the camp sites have toilets and the majority have level ground for tents. No showers, but then you just go for a swim in the lakes.

Drew our guide was excellent and took into account all of our needs and was very patient with us. It wasn’t a problem that we hadn’t canoed before and the first afternoon we were shown the basic strokes and then we were off. The area is beautiful, lush green forests and tranquil lakes. We were blessed with clear blue skies for pretty much all of the 5 days, no mosquitoes and only a light headwind on one day. The food outdoor explore provide is good quality and plentiful, we were never hungry.
It is important to note that whilst the Powell Circuit is beautiful, you will be sharing the lakes (particularly in the summer) with other users. We met a few kayakers and canoeists at the campsites and there are lake cabins along some shores.
We had complete confidence in Drew, had a fantastic five days on the lakes and I would highly recommend Outdoor Explore if you’re considering a canoe tour.”
