North Coast

The northern section of the Sunshine Coast is typically less busy than the southern section, and it offers just as much to see and do. Even though the Sunshine Coast is part of the BC mainland, you can only get here by ferry, boat, or air.

From Vancouver, there are two scenic ferry rides to get to the Northern Sunshine Coast: a 40-minute ferry ride from Horseshoe Bay in West Vancouver to the Langdale ferry terminal near Gibsons, followed by a drive up towards Egmont, where a 50-minute ferry ride from Earls Cove will take you to the Saltery Bay ferry terminal near Powell River. There are also short flights available from downtown Vancouver and Vancouver International Airport to Powell River, and Texada Island is home to a small airport that’s popular with aviation hobbyists.

If you’re coming from Vancouver Island, there is one 85-minute ferry from the Little River (Comox) ferry terminal to Westview (Powell River). There are also flights available from Vancouver Island to Powell River.

Highway 101 winds through Powell River—where you can catch a ferry to Texada Island—and on to Lund, where you can book a water taxi to places such as Savary Island. Consider booking accommodations in multiple communities during your stay for a chance to explore the North Coast more fully.
