Visitor Services Vision
Sunshine Coast Tourism (SCT) operates two full-time Visitor Centres (VCs) in Gibsons and Sechelt, with funding support from Destination BC (DBC), the Town of Gibsons and the District of Sechelt respectively.
There is a third full-time Visitor Centre in Powell River funded partially by DBC and the qathet Regional District, and a seasonal (June-September) Visitor Information Booth in Pender Harbour that is funded by local government and the Pender Harbour Chamber of Commerce. As well, the Gibsons Chamber of Commerce continues to operate their own seasonal Visitor Information Park (VIP) at the Highway 101 by-pass near the Langdale Ferry as well as the BC Ferry Ambassador program, with limited funding support from local government.
In spring of 2019, SCT was awarded a BC Rural Dividend grant to facilitate the development of the Sunshine Coast Regional Visitor Services Strategy to provide a more coordinated and optimized framework for collaboration amongst the Visitor Centres. SCT’s vision is to bring all of the visitor services within the Sunshine Coast region into brand alignment with SCT and to encourage deeper collaboration amongst the visitor centres and marketing staff to ensure visitors receive a consistent message and high value visitor engagement while traveling in the region.
What Visitor Centres Offer
Sunshine Coast Visitor Centres offer a welcoming environment, friendly knowledgeable staff who provide up-to-date information about local recreational offerings, attractions, events, businesses, accommodations and more. They carry a wide variety of brochures, maps, postcards and souvenirs to help visitors make the most of their time on the Sunshine Coast. Visitor Centre staff drive business to tourism partners.
Brochure Racking and Business Promotion
In addition to promoting partner businesses by word of mouth, all SC Visitor Centres offer brochure racking to businesses wishing to reach a captive audience of travellers during their visit to the Sunshine Coast.
