Indigenous Experiences

The Sunshine Coast is on the traditional, unceded territories of the Coast Salish peoples, including the Tla’amin, Klahoose, Xwémalhkwu, shíshálh, and Skwxwú7mesh Nations. Immerse yourself in the living traditions of these nations, and you may find a connection to something bigger than yourself through cultural exploration and learning.

Book a stay at an Indigenous-owned accommodation such as Klahoose Wilderness Resort, an all-inclusive lodge north of Desolation Sound where you can enjoy boat tours, rainforest walks, and guided grizzly bear viewing tours (depending on the time of year). Stop by the shíshálh Nation’s tems swiya Museum to learn about their people’s culture and history while viewing an extensive collection of artifacts. Take a guided kayaking or walking tour with Indigenous tour guides Talaysay Tours. And spend some time enjoying the skillfully carved totem poles and other Indigenous artwork and architecture found in communities all along the Sunshine Coast.
