Snowshoeing & Skiing

Don’t let the mild coastal climate fool you; a short drive into the surrounding mountains can be just the winter wonderland you were searching for.

Cross country skiing, snowshoeing, and hiking in an unspoiled and serene mountain setting with ocean vistas await you at Dakota RidgeTetrahedron Provincial Park and Knuckleheads Recreation Area. It’s a snowshoe, cross country skiing, winter hiking, snowmobiling paradise, all yours to discover. Also open year-round, the Sunshine Coast Trail is 180 kilometres of pure winter hiking delight.

Dakota Ridge in particular is a great experience for those looking for groomed, track-set trails for cross-country skiing, as well as over 14 km of snowshoe trails of varying degrees of difficulty. It’s even got a great sledding hill – fun for the whole family!

Wildlife such as deer, elk, coyotes, and cougars are active year-round on the Sunshine Coast. Avoid startling wildlife by making lots of noise with your voice to let wildlife know you are there, look for signs like tracks in the snow, carry bear spray, and be aware of your surroundings.
